Battle of the Books
02/11/2017
Hands-in before the competition, talking strategy and getting excited!
Ravenel's Team Shirts (and the other teams competing)
Conferencing with the coaches (librarians) before the battle begins!
Students sit in huddled groups to answer questions, but only one stands as "spokesperson" for the team. This is the person responsible for reciting the exact title of the book as an answer.
Volunteers are the timer, questioner, scorekeeper, and tallykeeper. These are often parents or other teachers from the local schools.
I had made the score sheets using large sticky-notes (for easel boards), markers, and lots of lines with yardsticks!
Team Huddle: Round 2
Waiting for the scores to see who will compete in the final round. Snacks (Cheez-Its) and water were served to the competitors at approximately 10:45 A.M.
The FINAL scoreboard (Yes, I created that one, too!)
The Ravenel Team with Participation Medals: We placed 4th! Great job, guys!
The entirety of county teams, each represented by a different tee color and librarian present.
After the Battle of the Books, the librarians were discussing potential improvements for next year. I took notes while the conversation flowed so that the librarians can discuss these issues and improvements on their district meeting on Friday.
Scholastic Book Fair
02/16-17/2017
We got the Book Fair set up with limited volunteers. Each of the tables is organized
by "genre" from Scholastic. Then, we rearranged as necessary.
This season's theme was "Happy Campers," so you'll see
lots of shenanigans with camping, animals, and firesides.
I made this wall display for the Family Book Night. The Scholastic Set Up Box
came with some photo props. Mrs. Edgerton and I thought this would be a fun
setup for students and parents to take pictures for social media to spread
the word about this literacy event.

This puzzle piece is made from the dust jackets of books that have the covers
impressed into the bindings. This will join an art installation that includes
puzzle pieces from each department of the school.

On our last day, I wore my Hogwarts shirt to represent our mutual love of
